Before you go

Drive: About 35 min from Taghazout · 1 h 30 from Agadir airport

Parking

Turn off the N1 by the river mouth and follow the track to the beach; park on the sand above the high-tide line. It's isolated: lock up and leave nothing on show.

Getting in

Walk the beach to find the best bank and paddle out through the channel beside it. Rips move with the banks; watch for a few minutes before you go in.

Boards

Board for todayShortboardFish

A shortboard most days, a step-up when it's solid. It's a punchy beach break, so a longboard rarely makes sense.

Nothing at the beach. Bring water and food; the roadside stalls in Tamri sell the famous local bananas.

Local tip: Surf with a friend: there's rarely anyone else out and no lifeguard.

Spot guide

A long, open beach at the mouth of the Tamri river, north of Cap Ghir, lined with banana plantations. It's the swell magnet of the region: when the points around Taghazout are flat, Tamri usually still has waves. Shifting sandbanks give punchy A-frame peaks, best from low to mid tide with an easterly wind. On big days it gets powerful, with strong rips.

Watch out: Strong rips over 2.5 m; don't leave valuables in the car.
