Parking

Pull off the N1 onto the clifftop dirt area above the break. Lock up and don't leave boards or bags in view.

Getting in

A steep path leads down to the rocks. You jump in next to the old boiler and paddle out through the channel; coming back in is harder than going out, so study it first.

Boards

Board for todayShortboardFish

A shortboard on normal days, a step-up of 6 ft 6 or more when it's big. Use a strong leash and bring a spare board if you can.

No facilities. Bring water, and reef booties help on the rocks.

Local tip: Sea urchins cover the rocks at the entry. If you're unsure about the jump, watch a few locals do it first.

Spot guide

Just south of the Cap Ghir lighthouse, Boilers is a fast, hollow right that peels over a boulder reef. It's named after the rusting boiler of a shipwreck sitting right in the line-up. Sheltered from the wind by the cape, it often stays clean when the north wind is blowing. It needs a solid NW swell and is best on the falling tide down to low. Experts only when it's big.

Watch out: Shipwreck and boulders in the line-up; tricky entry and exit.
