Before you go

Drive: About 1 h 25 from Taghazout · 2 h 20 from Agadir airport

Parking

Park in the village: on the streets above the bay or in the gravel lot next to the harbour. In the morning the port road is busy with fish trucks, so don't block it. If someone watches your car, a few dirhams when you leave is normal.

Getting in

Most people paddle out from the beach in front of the cafés and let the current carry them back up. Experienced surfers start from the rocks by the harbour for the longest rides; time the jump between sets.

Boards

Board for todayLongboardMid-length

A longboard (9 ft and up) or a mid-length (7 to 8 ft) is the classic choice. Bring a shortboard only for the bigger NW swells, when the inside sections get faster.

On site

  • Board rental
  • Food
  • Toilets

Surf shops and board rental along the bay, plenty of cafés and fish grills by the harbour, toilets in the cafés. Fresh fish from the port is the lunch.

Local tip: Go early: by mid-morning the bay fills with lessons. The outside section off the harbour is where the long rides start and where the regulars sit.

Spot guide

One of the longest right-handers in Africa. The wave wraps around the harbour point into a sheltered bay, so it stays small and clean when the open coast is huge and messy. On a good day you can ride several hundred metres, which makes it a longboard paradise. It only wakes up on bigger NW swells, and the northerly winds that ruin other spots are offshore here.

Watch out: Busy with surf schools; the take-off by the harbour is rocky.
